Terms and conditions

How does this website work?

This website (Massiveattack.com and Massiveattack.co.uk) is composed of the following:

Wiki from wikimedia. Works very much like wikipedia.org, please contribute, add to it, correct it, enjoy.

Blog from wordpress, works very much like most wordpress blogs out there, i.e. we create entries, you comment, share them... it's the official blog, so what you read here is the real thing.

Mekwa, an altruistic community platform. You create a mekwa profile, give it a few of your wishes/desires (within a massive attack context) and let it go. Someone will find it and beam it down to their mobile or desktop and surprise it by adding multimedia entries to it. It's really quiet simple.

We decided upon a fragmented modular approach. Open source platforms (wiki, wordpress, mekwa) to serve an open minded engaged community.

Who is this website intended for?

Everyone and anyone who loves Massive Attack. Anyone who wants to go beyond their social network and connect with the Massive Attack social network and in doing so be surprised, engage/report global issues or simply find old Massive Attack material or an upcoming gig.

You should be over 13 to use the Massive Attack mekwa community. We like the number 13. You must have some sort of abstract thinking capability and common sense. If you are 13+ and display none of these, don't join. I you are younger and already possess those qualities, great, we can't really really stop you using mekwa. Have fun, watch out for freaks, they can also have profiles.

We do moderate this website, but most importantly, the mekwa platform has the necessary tools for users to report and moderate each other's behaviour.

What is this mekwa thingie and why don't we just use twitter, facebook, myspace...?

Well, we do use Twitter, Facebook, Myspace... but mekwa offers a different approach to community building. It revolves around what users want/desire/yearn for and the act of fulfilling these using multimedia entries. In this instance all within Massive Attack's context. It's about wanting to hear an old bootleg, i.e. "Who has bootleg x from 1999?" as much as connecting with other Massive Attack fans from across the globe.

We don't really know what wants/wishes your mekwa profile can help you fulfil ...we do know it can surprise you, and for now that is nice and suffices.

How engaged are Massive Attack in this website?

D, G have profiles in the Massive Attack mekwa community. It's through this community that you will find out first hand news from the band. Depending on your activity you may be rewarded from time to time with a surprise. Ultimately Massive Attack's mekwa community is an incursion into the nature of digital altruism and spontaneous celebration.

Pricing

This website is completely free to use. If you are using it via mobile, standard charges apply. If you are using a desktop computer, you must be aware that the internet is not free either, nor is electricity. Someone always pays for it.

Intellectual Property rights

By creating a Massive Attack mekwa profile, part of your already very fragmented identity becomes public. Know that by uploading images and videos you are stating they belong to you or you have the express consent of whoever owns it.

Liability limitation

By registering with Massive Attack's mekwa platform, you agree that neither EMI Music Limited ("EMI") nor its associates is liable for any damages, direct or indirect, that may arise from your participation in Massive Attack's mekwa service. This also includes any damages, without limitation, stemming from your communication or meeting with other Massive Attack mekwa users. Such damages include, without limitation, physical damages, bodily injury and emotional damage, discomfort or distress as well as financial loss.

Any use or violation of the service is outside EMI's control and EMI is therefore not liable for it.

The paragraph above is paradigmatic of corporate law. Massive Attack's mekwa platform provides a service for which it is not liable at all, specially because it's digital and seamlessly intangible. If mekwa was a kettle, you would get one year guarantee.

Data protection and usage

Your personal information is yours and yours alone.

When you create an account we will ask you for information such as your name, sex, email address or mobile number. This information can only be seen by other registered users, until such time as you choose to terminate your account with Massive Attack's mekwa platform. You can choose not to reveal some of your personal details (mobile, facebook profile, myspace...), in which case all you need to do is keep your details private or not input those at all.

Know that EMI does not monitor every single post in the site, the latter was built for users to monitor each other. See something you don't enjoy, report abuse. Be kind though, it's a big world with lots of different and fascinating people. Do not impose your apparent freedom upon others.

This website uses cookies (use wikipedia to learn more about them if you don't already know).

Massive Attack's mekwa platform allows you to send other users' mekwas to your friends. If they are not registered, they must do so. You are not sending anything outside of mekwa more than a link to a mekwa.

Massiveattack.com and its composing sites include links to other sites. EMI is obviously not responsible for what those other sites publish.

EMI will never use nor allow other services to use your personal information unless you consent to it. It exists only at Massiveattack.com, for other Massiveattack.com users and never exits Massiveattack.com. The only exception is when a powerful government asks for it and makes a case for it through the might of its judicial system and/or military strength.

If our servers fail or some tech glitch occurs and you lose your data, we will be deeply apologetic but in the end you will probably have to recreate the information lost.

We can change these terms at any time, we'll try not to though, and will advise everyone through our blog.
